Farmhouse chandelier makeover...

So, here is the makeover post at last!

Let me remind you of my inspiration...

And the car boot sale find light fitting I started out with...

So, how to get a mottled grey finish on this?

I haven't tried this before so it was pure experimentation.

Just need to tweak those faux candle tubes... but I think it's very much more Swedish Country Farmhouse fantasy dining chic!

And perhaps ever so slightly, er, rain tarnished galvanised zinc. Hmm...not quite what I set out trying to do...

Unfortunately we can't install this until the floor goes in due to the possibility of  concussion as it dangles quite low. That's fine for over a dining table, not so good for the flooring guys.

Let me just show you our fabulicous boot sale find for this week. No, it's not a crate!

It's a beautiful traditional wool rug for the (husbands) master bedroom. There's no carpet in there as it was removed for health and safety reasons the very minute we set foot in here. My poor husband doesn't like walking on bare floorboards so he had taken two mismatched small rugs and laid them on the floor side by side. I found this behaviour disturbing and deeply upsetting. Obviously. (What is it with men?)

But the little mismatched rugs are history and we have one spanktacular large one in it's place. And it was only £7. Result!

Perfectly clean and no moth holes this time!

My daughter and I are heading up north for a week leaving the husband in charge of the cats. They've turned wild in the warm weather and only come home to be fed...

  9. Nice job on the light fitting. And great bargain hunting on the rug!
One of my cats (Big Fat Min-ball, as it happens) sleeps just like that. She and Fat Freddy would make a lovely (if large) couple.
I hope the cats and the Man have strict instructions for behavious while you are away with Constance - which they will doubtless ignore, that's what cats and men do, even after YEARS of training... Or is that just in this house?
Have a great trip! As you head north, we are heading south this week. xxxxx

  10. Love what you did with the light fitting and your table legs! (I love the 'zinc' look whether you were going for that or not - I do think its very Scandi-style!) Hope you are feeling better now, I've had a really bad chest, what's going on at all? No one else seems to be ill with this sort of thing. Maybe we're inhaling too many paint fumes?! Take care xx

    1. Thanks Rebecca, perhaps I should google that too as my Swedish country farmhouse is in my head and probably way off!
The only spray paint I used here was the primer, the rest was emulsion and gesso. x
