Time flies...

It's been a while. I wish I had some fabulous reason for my absence. Like I've finished the Edwardian wardrobe. (Not true.) Or finished the Christmas decs. (Not quite.) Or done all my Christmas shopping and cards. (Fat chance.) Or even put the catches on the country cottage doors? (Not just yet.)

All I can say is that it's scientific fact that time speeds up in December. But I did get to the bottom of this ironing pile which was becoming dangerous to small children and cats...

Can you imagine if there was an avalanche?

So with no brilliant achievements to report, I'll share some cool secondhand scores with you instead.

I got this lovely (rein)deer skin rug from this mornings boot sale for £5. I've since had a little look at the price of them on eBay and I'm very pleased. Very Christmassy. Unless you have a soft spot for reindeer.

And this dressing table stool I picked up for a tenner at the Flea market...

I thought it would go with my desk...

Same legs. And I love the muted colours of the needlepoint upholstery but I think I might attempt to remove it and wash it and re-stuff the seat.

And I'll probably do a paint job on the wood too.

Bad Bobby likes that it dips in the middle as it makes a cosy nest...

I'm just waiting for something I ordered from the Betterware catalogue (of all places!) to arrive and then I'll share the Christmas decorations with you.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

  1. I think bobby has claimed that chair as his own. Not sure about the reindeer skin tho! My friend has a bearskin complete with head and savage looking teeth in her room and not sure about that either. I remember in the early 80's having a coney fur coat and my cat of that time almost savaging it!

    1. Haha! I thought the boys might take an interest in it but thankfully they haven't. That must mean it doesn't smell like a dead animal!

  2. Well I think that is a very organised ironing pile - mine has indeed 'avalanched' but instead of being a proper person and picking it up I found it much easier to bury the evidence with more ironing - to be fair the height has gone down but the circumference is a little larger! Love the stool x Jane

  3. I can't believe I walked past it about 4 times before I saw it. I love it too. Glad to hear I'm not the only one with ironing pile problems. xx

  4. Thats so funny but your pile of ironing looks quit neat. the cat also looks very comfy on that stool so it may be a fight to get to it. It looks nice though

    1. I see some little pulls in the needlepoint today so the cats are BANNED from now on! I've just started working on it.

  5. I iron only as I need it, and rarely even then. Hopefully we all don't look like crumpled messes. :)

Great finds. Fur is everywhere here - draped on chairs in cafés (which are open in the winter), on the backs of older women, even on the young, in smaller quantities. It's not generally accepted in Canada as a fashion item, but here it's de rigueur. I have some vintage accessories and boy, do they keep me warm. Cute stool. Kitties gravitate naturally to them, don't they? Xo

    1. It certainly adds a cosy, wintery hunting lodge vibe. I'm not squeamish about it. I probably wouldn't wear it unless it was vintage but it's not really any different to wearing leather. Is it ok to wear cows but not bunny rabbits because they're cute? No one balks at sheepskin so why should deer be different? I LOVE it and the fact that it was so bargainous. Glad to hear it's all the rage in France! xx

  6. Ha, your ironing pile looks a lot like mine (except you've done yours now and I haven't, unfortunately...) The tapestry stool is a beauty, and so is BB (does FF like it too?) xxx

  7. Aww, what a dear pusskins! Reminds me of my much loved Ginger who used to take up with me every summer in our caravan... His owner knew, and gave me permission to feed him. Though he mostly caught rabbits and ate them under the caravan (arrrgghh the ghastly sound of crunching bones! Eeek!). I have a very soft spot for ginger cats since then. Your lovely Bad Bobby is gorgeous!

  8. Bad Bobby ain't letting you do anything to that stool! Those skins are worth money? I have a deer in the bedroom - disgraceful behaviour for a veggie but it was too cheap to leave behind...mmmm, maybe I should flog it!
    Love the desk. It's gorgeous.
I hate Xmas more and more each year. I'm in denial till at least the 22nd! xxx

    1. They sell for extraordinary amounts! I saw one once at the boot sale that they wanted £30 for but it was MOULTING heavily so I resisted. The cat hair is enough to deal with! xxx

  9. I've been wondering where you were*. Glad to hear there were no ironing-avalanche mishaps! Although you could've accidentally knocked it over on yourself and made your husband save you with lots of medicinal brandy, like people trapped on mountainsides. Then again, I don't like brandy. Perhaps medicinal Baileys could be a substitute at this time of year? xxx (*Not in a cross way - just cos your blog is one of my favourites :p)
