I've been a bad girl...

...I've got no further with the dining room and I've been buying things that I have no need for.
I just love them.

What am I going to do with this?

Vintage hymn board from a church

And where to put it? No idea. But it's so cool, I'm sure I will think of something... key holder maybe? Luckily my husband didn't ask how much I paid for it. I'd have lied. But it was still a fraction of what they sell for on eBay. So that makes it an investment rather than needless junk doesn't it?

Next up...

Stupidly small, needlepoint vintage handbag. Currently hanging on my bedroom mirror. So pretty.

And this:

A vintage European coffee grinder. I don't drink coffee. I'll have to start now. I found that at this mornings boot sale. I sooo enjoyed driving there! I'm very happy to give up the half hour walk. I smiled all the way home.

And the painting progress? Here's a sneaky peek at it:

before

after

And a hedgehog update? She's getting to be a big fat girl which is great. She's almost gained 100g.

She gets excercised every day and enjoys a good forage round the garden. Or the kitchen.

Isn't she a beauty?

Back soon with the completed cabinet. I have to finish it this week as I've got family over at the weekend. Wish me luck!

  2. Well how could you have resisted that. Keys would be good but it would assume you have enough to run a small hotel! How about a letter rack/postcard display/keys/photographs combo? And of course some hymn numbers. Love that bag x Jane P.S.Well done on your little prickly friend - she looks as happy as a hedgehog in clover!

    1. We certainly have enough keys to run a hotel. Or indeed a prison. Thanks Jane! x

  3. I love everything here EK, especially the hymn board I would not have been able to resist that either. Great patina on the coffee pot. Pleased to hear Twilight doing well. X

  4. Perhaps you can use the hymn board to display cards listing what you're having for dinner each night of the week?
Or you could put chores on cards for your daughter and she can take them down when she's done them; maybe with a treat at the end, so she knows after Homework and Tidying her room she gets cuddles with the cats and to watch her favourite film?

I might make one of those for me too, to be honest.I reckon I'd be much more likely to hoover if I knew there was hot chocolate at the end of it :p xxx

    1. Chores and a list of punishments if she fails to do them might be more effective! ;) xxx

  5. Love the look of the dresser. Your finds are fab - I'd have been tempted by all of them. I went for practicality at this morning's boot sale - a 3 tier steamer, drawer liners, china mugs, kitchen utensils and storage tins - total spend of £2.90. Cheap but boring!

    1. I don't really do jewellery. (I'm admitting this to the wrong person!) It'll have to be keys I'm afraid! xx

  8. Oh look at Mrs T! (That's Tiggywinkle, not Twilight. To me, anyway.) So pleased she is fattening up nicely of winter. Hedgehog husbandry, who knew you were so good at it, Emma Kate?
Now the hymn board; I love it. And naturally I think you should chalk up a number, get out your copies of Hymns Ancient and Modern, and start singing.
Great coffee grinder (is that Scandinavian rustic country farmhouse chic? I don't quite know what that is but I know it's your fave!) and the petit-point handbag is gorgeous. That's the perfect spot to display it.
Good luck with the painting, now crack on! xxxx

    1. She has three names now. I call her Mrs Tiggywinkle too, Jason calls her Harriet and Constance calls her Twilight. We just can't agree. Luckily little hedgehog doesn't care so long as she's fed and warm.

  9. The hymn board is fantastic! I think you should display the 10 commandments according to emma-kate on it. Thou shalt not buy junk unless it is wooden, pretty or useful. Thou shalt not leave a thing unpainted, that sort of thing! So please to hear the hedgehog is on the mend-have you read. A prickly affair yet? Wonderful book. Did you know nz hedgehogs dont get fleas? They all died on the way over on the boat and there were no hedgehogs here to catch new ones from!

    1. I love blogging and the way you all validate my junk shopping trips. The 10 commandments sounds perfect. You know me so well!
Hedgehogs; so somebody actually imported them? Was there a slug epidemic? How did the fleas die? Did someone pick them off with tweezers and plunge them into hot water? Because that is a good way to kill them! Off to google the history of hedgehogs in New Zealend now. I'll look out for the book. xxx

  13. Oh my goodness I love that hymn board!! I'd just pop it up on the wall with nothing in it (obviously a purist here) tempted to look on ebay now just to see how much they go for on there...
