How to sum up the last 6 years? I have divorced and remarried a wonderful man who is 21 years older than me. I have moved house with him to a 400 year old cottage where we are currently wading through all of our belongings and deciding what stays and what goes.
It was all very unexpected. And where did I find him you ask? At the fleamarket of course. Best thing I've ever found.
My daughter is now 19 and lives next door in an adapted cottage and I am her carer, along with my ex husband who is hoping to move to the village next door to us and this will make sharing her care much easier. He is a wonderful dad. We also share the dog and are much better friends than partners.
I am trying to put our stamp on these two properties. Not the easiest thing when my husband has been here 40 years and the house is very full already. Fear not, I am wearing him down. He has let me have free reign next door in Connies cottage and I have made improvements, gaining his trust as I go with the intention of making more improvements in our house.
Connie's health has declined a great deal. She cannot do much for herself now. Friedreichs Ataxia is a wretched disease and it's heartbreaking to watch it rob her of everything. The cottage has been a blessing because at a time when her few friends have gone off to Uni, she has an illusion of independence and loads of input in how to decorate her home. Life is not easy but we must count our bessings where we find them.
Going forward I will share more design and DIY on my Instagram rather than here so please find me there and drop me a follow.
Here are the before shots of the beams in Connies cottage....
Don't worry, that horrific cupboard is not staying!
And after the Frenchic beam hack....
Top tips: Masking tape because the dark wax will stain the wall or ceiling next to the beam and blend, blend, blend your wax! I see some dreadful examples on social media.
I hope you are all well, wherever you are. The world is in a mess. Stay safe.
Hope to see you on Instagram.
