Door dramas...

I've been looking for a door for about 18 months. I needed 4 panels all in a row, I needed cheap and local. I've looked on ebay but I just haven't seen anything local enough to avoid mega delivery costs. I didn't want to part with £70.

This is what I want it for:

There are lots of these door headboards on Pinterest. There's no headboard in the master bedroom (my husbands) so I thought this would be perfect. They even did one on Kirsties 'furnish your home for free' tv show. (Not the best we've ever seen though...)

I had to walk to the DIY shop the other day and spotted my perfect door outside someones house. I charged up the path and cheekily asked them if they wanted rid of it. They said if I came back later they might let me have it. They were trying to hang a new door with great difficulty and weren't confident to let the old one go just in case it became a mission impossible.

On my way home from the DIY store I spoke to my husband and accidentally mentioned the door. He hit the roof. He said it was his room and he did not want a door for a headboard. I said I'd been searching for one for so long and this was local and free. He just got louder. I said I NEEDED to do it as a creative outlet. This didn't help. I told him I wasn't asking for his permission and I hung up on him.

Funny thing is, he called me back five minutes later and was being all practical about how we'd get it home. He'd actually googled door headboards and realised I wasn't barking mad. He said he quite liked them!

So we duly turned up later at the house and they let us take the door. They even offered us a lift to get it home. I was too proud to accept. Besides we only had to stagger half a mile with it and it wasn't THAT heavy.

So stagger we did. We crashed into several shrubs but made it home.

I'm sooo thrilled with my free door! Having Jason off my back about it is an added bonus. It's on the backburner for now as it's all kicking off in the dining room and that's my priority right now. But it will be a fabulous headboard between now and Christmas!

Mark my words.

Did you see the lovely Curtises post? Pop over and take a look as she looks utterly fab in the patchwork skirt. It's proof of karma that I got sent the door the same day she got the skirt.

A lottery win is also on my wishlist. Perhaps if I send her some more stuff, that will come my way too?

Have a lovely bank holiday weekend. I'm doing something very exciting (paintwise!) and if it works out I'll show you soon.
The dining room floor goes down on Tuesday. Not a moment too soon!

  1. The perfect door for a headboard - good spot! Ha, our hubbies think we're bonkers sometimes don't they. They just can't visualise the finished thing like we can - it will be fab! xx

    1. No they really do lack the visualisation gene. He does trust me most of the time. Which is lucky as I cannot compromise on interiors and don't want his opinion. ;)

  2. I can positively guarantee that if you consider to source wonderful clothes for me, a major lottery win will be yours. Yep, it's a done deal.
You should be doing Kirstie Bloody Allsopp's job (she annoys me, can you tell?) You're not telling me she scours the streets for her own free doors,oh no, she has a team doing all that nitty gritty kind of stuff for her. You, on the other hand, spot the ideal door, win an argument with your husband over it, AND carry the thing home. And when it has become a headboard, Jason will love it and apologise profusely for EVER having the temerity to doubt you. This too is a done deal.
Thanks for the mention and including the pic, and enjoy your exciting paint-filled weekend! xxxx

  5. Crikey how patient of you to be looking out for a headboard door for 18 months and wonderfully resourceful of you too. So pleased the hubster came around to your way of thinking I'm sure he knows what's good for him!
Kirstie Allsop gets on my wick too but I still watch just so I can critisise it. Looking forward to the reveal.

    1. Patient? Nah, I'm just too stingy to shell out silly money for one. When I saw the same idea on Kirsties show, my heart sank and I thought they'd now be in demand so I'd never get one! x

  8. I had a day of the headboard yesterday - finally finished painting a pine one and we offered it up to the bed which had never had a head board before. No screw thingys. Stole screws off a single bed but they didn't fit the metal receiving thing built in to the bed. We found some screws in the garage that would do, but by then I had taken a Stanley knife to the vile pink satin stuff of the base so I could see what was going on inside. The underneath of the divan bed is crude cheap pine and an enormous space - reckon I could get 4 large suitcases under it. This bed was given to us but I will never buy a new divan again - even I could have made the frame better. And after all that, we can barely see the headboard because the pillows hide it! I'm looking forward to seeing your one later on ♥

    1. How about wall mounting it? Then it could be higher? That's what I was planning on doing, rather than fannying around with those fork thingies. You can get special brackets for this purpose. xx

    2. it's not worth it, it's quite small and plain. But apparently it has stopped the pillows falling down the gap!

  10. I toyed with the idea of using old wrought iron gates or a door but Jon spotted both of our beds on eBay for a song so it saved the bother!
Curtise looked amazing in her patchwork skirt. xxx

  11. that skirt looks amazing on curtise doesn't it! mind the woman could wear a sack and look hot!
we don't get kirstie telly here so i've never seen this style of door used as a headboard, but i think it's going to look magnificent.
we have a wooden carved arch from a mission church as our bedhead-it's still not attached after 10 years or so and it is the worst EVER dust catcher but it is eye catching, functional and unique!
