Sanding the stairs...

Well, if that title doesn't grab you, I don't know what will...

Sorry for my blogging absence. You'll never guess what I've been up to.

If you are hankering after a house full of dust, both upstairs and down, to make your spring cleaning really worthwhile, I thoroughly recommend sanding your stairs.

Offending glue covered step

If you're lucky your husband might come in when you're halfway through and start bitching about the state of the house.

I would just ignore him if I were you and plough on.

Flippin' gorgeous...

Before you start hoovering up the mess, you might want to countersink 20 or so screws that the previous owners needlessly put into the staircase...

Great. You're one step closer to the staircase of your dreams. Just several hours of filling, caulking, sanding, priming and painting to go.

Still no news of Mrs Bolden our missing school teacher. We are all hoping she might return to work on Tuesday. She is constantly in our thoughts and prayers.

  2. DIY Superstar, that's you! It will be worth it, of course, but eugh, what a process, sounds like very Hard Work.
Hope there is news of Mrs Bolden soon. xxxx

    1. That is the best way! I don't even know how we're going to stop the cats walking on the wet stairs and leaving painty paw prints all over the new floors! x

  6. Well done you for being so dedicated! I think I've mentioned before that our stairs are in a similar pre-sanded state (although we are lucky to have no glue/screws- only cracks); I just can't raise the energy to start sanding because I know it'll take forever and be so dusty. Perhaps the before/after pics of your gorgeous finished stairs will be the boot up the bum I need. xx

    1. I really only had to tackle the gluey step as that was the easiest way of getting the glue off. The others I just did very lightly, mostly on the intreated wood where it was v. dirty. The dust was everywhere already so why not?
If you don't want to sand, why not just use a super-primer like zinnser or blackfriars? xx

  12. The title certainly grabbed me! My boyfriend found me sat at the bottom of the stairs the other day, peeling up the carpet and taking a peek but he told me we need to finish the half sanded hallway before starting the stairs, which I know makes sense but I'm itching to rip the carpet up! I'm looking forward to seeing pics of your finished stairs x
