The calm before the storm...

I'm afraid I've had little time to work on my doors. We spent much of yesterday clearing the garden of accumulated DIY crapola and taking it to the tip. I was very good and didn't bring anything home. There might have been a long lingering glance at a beaten up chest of drawers but I was very restrained. The reason for this clear up? A big storm is due this evening and we don't want to be responsible for one of our stray doors flying through someones window in the middle of the night. We are battening down the hatches, moving flower pots and garden furniture out of harms way.

This morning we set off at 6.20 to sell at the local boot sale. It was tipping it down when we left but dried up fast and we did very well. So well that Jason wants to do another next weekend. I'm happy to wait til spring!

I'll show you what I found a few weeks ago for £2 at the boot sale...

This galvanised metal basket was £2. The top was nice metal. The bottom was coated in green plastic rather like the handles of an old shopping basket. I spotted potential but I must have spent two hours scraping off all the plastic with a knife!

This little enamel number I bought separately from eBay to make it look like an old swimming pool locker. Erm, from a really big pool with one and a half thousand lockers. Hmm, I didn't think that through. Anyway, it adds a bit of industrial chic to the towel pile.

And without mentioning the 'C' word, (it's improper until after Hallowe'en) look at this years bauble harvest so far!

This is my favourite, it dangles on a spring...

It was very hard to photograph as it wouldn't stop bouncing!

This one is massive...

These two are unusual

I've never seen one like this before...

...it's indented on both sides...

...and this one is just beautiful...

We're going to be gearing up for our Hallowe'en party this week so I'll be back soon to show you the decorations.

Stay safe in the storm!

  1. Those are some great finds. The vintage ornaments are lovely. My mom used to have quite a few of the type with indents on both sides. Too bad we didn't keep them though. Crates have so many uses and I like how you added the number. I recently found an old produce crate and after lots of scraping I ended up spray painting it silver, making a simple liner and using it as a laundry hamper in our basement guest suite.

  2. Well I added the number pretty shoddily. I think I could tidy up that wire. Your crate sounds lovely. I wish we'd kept all our old baubles too!

  3. good luck with the storm. I've spent 2 days dragging sheets of corrugated iron and furniture under cover. And pots and crapola. Managed to get hubs car in to the garage, which now is piled high with stuff on top of stuff. Place looks like we moved out. Now it's dark and I've done what I can, candles ready, mobiles charged up. Now the wait to see if it's as bad as they think. 1987 a tree fell on the kitchen roof where I was staying and I still have nightmares about it. We're surrounded by trees - some of them are as big as they get. Eeek. Your C ornaments are lovely

    1. Haha! You've had the same weekend as me. We have parked the car as far away from the garage as we can. That garage will be the first thing to go!
We are armed and ready for looters/disease/nuclear attack. It's very quiet outside. Do you think this is just the BBC covering their backs after the cock up last time? xx

  4. That springy decoration is utterly adorable! Is Santa riding a goose?! I've been feeling SO festive this weekend (which is completely out of character for me) and I'm trying to quash it because Halloween definitely comes first. xxx

    1. Definitely! But I do like to think that Christmas is for life, not just for Christmas. We actually have a few Xmas decs up already. But only the really sinister ones... xxx

  5. Great finds. I especially love the idea of the wire swimming pool basket. I remember ours had tall handles and hooks with numbers to hang up at our local pool. (can I just say that was in the 1960's, I suppose they have gone all modern now with lockers instead)

    1. The ones shaped like a coathanger at the top with a basket under? They are so cool. They come up on ebay from time to time but go for a LOT! x

  6. I sold a box of those weird pipecleaner Xmas decorations last year, they went for loads! Hope the storm wasn't too damaging, nothing happened here! x

    1. Nothing here either! Bit of a storm in a teacup. I was grateful for our power and heat this morning though! x

  7. Nope, nothing much happened here either, just a bit wet and windy, as usual.
Ooh, that little enamel label is lovely, and you can't beat vintage Christmas decs. I've got a few, and those indented ones are my faves too. xxx

  8. Useful wire basket, it wouldn't have occurred to me to add an an enamel number probs because our swimming pool lockers were different... . but it looks good. The storm didn't really happen here either thankfully, although that poor girl who died in the caravan only lives 20 mins away.
