The finished chest of drawers! Finally...and a bedroom tour.

I actually finished this late on Friday night. On Saturday morning, the sun came up and it just wasn't working. I tried to be clever and paint it like I did the Gustavian wine table. It looked like a slab of concrete. It might have worked in the room if I'd been prepared to paint the wall white, repaint the mirror and the bed! It took me 10 years to get round to painting the bed so I did NOT want to go there!

Here's the 'FIRST FINISHED' shot...(it's just a close up as the room was in total disarray.)



I was NOT digging it. So despite saying it wouldn't be white, I went for an off white, that most everything else in the room is painted in. (Porcelain by Dulux Trade Paints) Doh! Why didn't I just do that in the first place?

It's not what I set out to do. But it's probably what I should have set out to do! It took me another whole day to do this. So the grey was 'Cosy grey' by Wilkinsons (a lovely colour!) and the top coat, 'Porcelain' by Dulux. Just  matt emulsion. Then waxed with Liberon Antique Pine to add protection and a teeny bit of warmth to the Porcelain.

I bought the French bed years ago when I bought my first house. The bedside table is an eBay score. (Needs painting.) Bedspread from a boot sale. I made the Union Jack cushion. Cross stitch cushion from eBay.


The lamp and shade were boot sale finds. I darkened the brass with tourmaline as I'm into tarnish.


Love my vintage religious pictures. This is the only one I have up...

Silly corner window. Car boot sale manneqin that I recovered with hessian.

Car boot sale silver plated tray. Same style as the mirror above it. The glass jars were collected from charity shops.

This little guy is next to the mirror. I had two but I smashed the other one.They were boot sale finds.

Mannequin fetish...

Just got this huge jewellery case from a charity shop the other day. I was just thinking the mirror looked messy draped in necklaces, and I had 4 jewellery boxes dotted around. I don't really wear jewellery and I sold my gold and my silver but I have some of my mums costume jewellery and some old family bits of worthless tat that I want to keep. Even my daughters teeth are in here! Everything fits as there are slide out drawers inside. I'm sure I will paint it but not yet. I need a break! The bears were from boot sales and they're married.


All finished off with a vintage lamp. (Original wiring!) The wall colour you see here is 'Hazelnut Cream' by Dulux Trade Paints. I love it. It was bought for the living room and was far too pink but it works in here.
If you're thinking there's not much male influence in here you'd be right. My husband has the master bedroom as he snores like a motorbike.

I LOVE snooping round other peoples homes in blogland so I hope you've enjoyed this peep into my boudoir.

    It looks gorgeous!! What a wonderful room, wish my bedroom looked as beautiful, we have a horrible wardrobe I need to replace!

      We have a horrid built in wardrobe in the master bed which is on the verge of collapse! I want to rip it out and build a dressing room as the room is very long. The ceiling needs replacing first. Ugh! What a job that will be!

    your bedroom is lovely. I too have my own boudoir due to snoring hubby. I bedded down with him the other week due to visitors and he decamped to his office at 2am as I fidget and moan too much for him to get any sleep either, lol. ♥

    Well this certainly doesn't look like 'rubbish'! Well done on a fab makeover although I have to say I quite liked the 'before' version. Your bedroom looks like an organised tranquil retreat unlike my messy boudoir.
    LOVE the lampbase and the Religion.

      Thanks Fiona. It is NEVER this tidy, my husband despairs of me and says it's as messy the bedroom of a 16 year old girl. I actually found a christmas present I'd hidden away for my daughter from the christmas before last when I moved everything! Shameful!

    Glad you got there in the end, even if it did take more work that you'd have liked.

    Love your bed, and oh boy, is it good to hear that I'm not the only one who relegates my hubby to another room because of his snoring, lol. On the odd occasion that this comes up in conversation, people look at me as if I'm crazy not sharing a bed with him, but hey, they probably haven't been submitted to Chinese Water Torture, and after SEVEN days with no real sleep I actually went to put a pillow over his head!!! Luckily he woke up, but he said 'you wouldn't really .......', and I hate to admit it, but being THAT sleep deprived, I just might have!!

    The drawers are beautiful, as is the rest of the room.
    I hate that feeling of knowing something you've done isn't quite ' right' and that it's going to drive you mad if you leave it - no matter how much other people tell you it's lovely!

      Thanks Scarlet. It really did look like a slab of concrete which was so frustrating as I thought I had chosen the colours very carefully, matching the tones of the wooden top and the walls. Sometimes you never can tell until you do it!

    Thanks for showing us your bedroom, I love what you've done in there-I notice you've painted the handles,looks really effective. I'm going to look out for the Wilko grey paint as I'm giving my living room a bit of a freshen-up and want to introduce more grey and little dusky pink.

    wow, its gorgeous, so well done. you would never guess so many of your beautiful things are charity-shopped, antique shopped maybe! i cant imagine the extent of your frustration at that project gone wrong; i wail and complain for months about knitting gone wrong and its such a tiny project in comparison with yours. good on you for gritting your teeth and redoing it x

      Thanks Caroline, I started putting a house tour page together but it's very much a work in progress. I have some grand ideas for the dining room but we still need to do some electrics in there first. I can do the decorating and the little pretty bits but I'm hampered by the big things like wiring, plumbing and ceilings needing to come down before I can do the pretties! x
